In early 2012, Hunter Douglas – the nation's leading manufacturer and marketer of custom window fashions – launched "The Art of Window Dressing." This consumer iPad application was designed to streamline the extremely personal process of selecting and customizing this premium, high-consideration product. For a brand like Hunter Douglas, which sells its products through offline dealers, functional and engaging digital applications are critical. "The Art of Window Dressing" invites consumers to actively visualize Hunter Douglas products in their homes, and motivate a visit to a dealer showroom. With the app consumers can explore a wide range of Hunter Douglas products, swatches, and color options in a digital product gallery. They can also experience the window fashions in the context of a realistic kitchen, bedroom, or living room. Consumers have the ability to use a stock photograph and customize the window dressings within it to their tastes, or to upload a photo of a room in their very own home – and even take one on the spot using their iPad. In this way these potential customers can see not just what a product would look like in their fantasy room but in an actual space within their home. Products, colors, and fabric options (over 300 of them) can all be customized. The final product can be saved to a Workbook, e-mailed, and shared on social media sites like Facebook. Most importantly, it can be sent directly to a Hunter Douglas dealer who can help the consumer translate her design vision into a reality.
