Alexander+Tom (A+T) recently developed an interactive mobile app called ParkPoints. The app is a great tool for anyone looking for outdoor activities around the Chesapeake Bay.
Upon launch, the application uses geo-location data to provide popular park activities in the user’s area, such as biking, birding watching, camping, and hiking. An easy-to-use interactive map highlights detailed information about each location, including park hours, activities, and history.
Visitors and local residents will also be able to search for parks by name, browse through local park listings, and pinpoint services and facilities based on their needs. Driving directions are available for select parks through ViaPlace, powered by Google Maps.
The app provides a variety of different park activities for the user to select from, and once an activity is selected the park locations are then displayed according to the user’s location on a Google map. A “Park Details” screen was also developed to provide the user with detailed information about each park's services, location, activities, hours, and “Google-provided” driving directions.
This app is intended to promote our national parks along the Chesapeake Bay as a great source of fun, accessible outdoor activities.
