In 1999, Pierre Lavoie launched the “Défi Pierre Lavoie” (“Pierre Lavoie Challenge”) in Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean to raise funds for research on lactic acidosis, a congenital disease which caused two of his children to die. After several editions, the event grew bigger and bigger. In 2005, Pierre Lavoie noticed kids growing interest in his project and decided to take his challenge to another level.
In Quebec, there is a growing problem with kids and obesity: kids are not active enough and their eating habits should be healthier. To be more active and eat better, Pierre Lavoie felt kids needed a challenge: that’s how the project evolved to create the biggest health happening ever organized in Quebec.
From November 2008 to June 2009, the « le Grand défi Pierre Lavoie/ toured schools across the province to get kids to be more active and eat better.
The www.LeveToiETBouge.com website was designed for elementary school kids and their physical education teachers. It was the event’s main tool in schools and promoted :
• The « Grand défi » caravan tour in Quebec’s elementary schools
• The school’s registrations to the event and score entries by the teachers
• The « Grand défi » in itself, held in May
• The great celebration at the Olympic Stadium
