The physicians at Temple University Hospital (TUH) recently noted their lack of familiarity with new medical staff, limiting their ability to make referrals and recommendations. The marketing department was asked to develop an educational program that would increase the physicians’ awareness and utilization of colleagues’ capabilities.
Marketing staff considered each medium and identified email communication as the most effective channel for this educational process, allowing us to reach the entire medical staff quickly, inexpensively, and dynamically. We created a monthly email series to announce and profile each new member of the TUH medical staff. Rather than use the text-heavy format frequently used for newsletters and other regular communications, we developed an attractive, inviting design that encourages busy physicians to view the faces and specialties of new medical staff, and link to web-based, full profiles for further information.
The physicians and administrative staff have enthusiastically responded and also requested that we expand the distribution to board members, alumni and external physicians.
