A type 1 diabetes (T1D) diagnosis can be terrifying—it often happenswithout warning. Typically, people are not diagnosed with T1D untilthey start to show the signs of insulin dependence. But T1D can be detected long before these symptoms begin, through a simple blood test.With apotentialnew treatment around the corner for people with early-stage T1D, Provention Bio faced a challenge: how to educate people about the test and encourage them to take it without being able to mention the treatment that will be available in the near future.Knowing that the risk of developing T1D is higher with a family history, we decided to focus our efforts on parents of high-risk children and young adults with relatives who have T1D—people who are familiar with the way a sudden diagnosis can affect you.Type1Tested usesinsights about the challenges of T1D and living with insulin dependence to create a simple value proposition for people at risk for the disease: get tested now, so you can recognize symptoms before they begin, avoid serious complications, and prepare for insulin dependence. The website drives this point home with imagery and messaging that doesn’t shy away from the realities of T1D, andthatuses a balance of facts, education, and supportto motivate people to get Type1Tested. By doing so, it primes the marketplacefor the launch of Provention Bio’s new treatment—onethat can help delay insulin dependence in those who have tested positive for early-stage T1D.
