In the midst of pandemic lockdowns and evolving safety measures, San Francisco Travel Association looked forward to being able to welcome travelers back to our city. We also recognized that engaging with our local community would be key to inviting visitors to return. In this spirit, we developed our overarching recovery campaign: Our Gate is Open.
The campaign’s primary goal has been to bolster the recovery of San Francisco’s tourism industry through awareness. The celebrity videos are the foundation of the Our Gate is Open campaign messaging and a pivotal driver of inspiration for travelers to plan and book travel to San Francisco.
Another immediate goal was tackling the challenge of producing high-quality video content remotely. We were able to successfully achieve this through both pandemic-era ingenuity and user-directed content technology.
Targeted on social media to both locals and travelers familiar with San Francisco, the videos touched on key audience interests including sports, film, food and history. Well-known local celebrities speak sincerely about their personal experiences in the city and the things that make San Francisco unique. These heartfelt vignettes are designed to inspire locals and future visitors to explore more and remember their own special connections to the City by the Bay.
