Upon completion of the Spring 2020 semester, the second half of which was solely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many University of Guam students were considering whether continuing their education during the pandemic was a safe, affordable, and effective option. So the University of Guam launched the UOG Cares initiative in June with the goal of communicating to all current and prospective students the various forms of financial, academic, and health and wellness support available to help them stay the course during unusual circumstances.
Serving as the home base of the initiative is the UOG Cares website to inform students of all the financial aid and services. The UOG Marketing and Communications and Web Development teams collaborated to produce — over the course of just 48 hours — a smartly designed single-page website, where the main forms of assistance are easy to see at a glance and additional information is neatly tucked away in accordion folders or further down the page through anchor links. Tidy fonts, simple icons, and plenty of space make the website an enjoyable retreat from the chaos and uncertainty of 2020. The site’s content is engaging and relevant, as evidenced in its average three-minute view time in the week after its launch.
