Even though gout affects over 8 million US adults, it’s a disease that doesn’t get talked about much—in public or in the doctor’s office. To make sure patients and caregivers alike understand just how seriously they should take gout, we launched the Gout is Serious Awareness campaign in May 2015 with the launch our website and Facebook Fan page.
First, we created our For Crying Gout Loud video series to let the public know that gout doesn’t discriminate. These videos use entertaining storytelling to deliver our serious message, generating content that is not only highly shareable, but also breakthrough for the category. Once these patients and caregivers were engaged, we gave them the full story at GoutIsSerious.com.
In only 3 months, Facebook engagement has reached 30x the industry average with over 40,000 fans and counting.
