The Akamai Edge Photo Mosaic was an interactive application designed to engage and connect with attendees at Akamai Edge, their annual user conference. Throughout the course of the event, attendees were encouraged to submit photos using the hash tag #akamaiedge, the goal of creating an community driven, interactive application.
The ultimate goal, beyond just connecting with and engaging their existing user base, was to create an application that showcased the entire Akamai community...users, customers, vendor and Akamai themselves. Therefore, this proved to not only be a great way engage people throughout the entire user conference, it proved to be a great way to showcase all of the people and organizations that make up their entire community.
Beyond showcasing the community, this piece proved to have "legs" as not only has it provided Akamai with a way to showcase the event in months that have followed, users can return to the mosaic and search hash tags, name of handles, such as @brightcove, to view their own submissions and those of their friends and colleagues.
Ultimately the Akamai Edge Photo Mosaic proved to be great way to engage with the B2B community, their existing user base and create an asset that not only engaged their core user base throughout the event, but in the months that have followed as well.
