The purpose of the campaign was to celebrate 40 years of Computing magazine (sponsored by Intel). We created an interactive info graphic celebrating the key IT events of the last 40 years and some fun future predictions. The idea was to get visitors to vote for their favourite moments by tweeting their vote. This engaged the users and additionally spread the word at the same time. We made an animated info-graphic to launch the campaign at The UK it awards last November requesting attendees to kick off the event by voting. Each vote would enlarge the graphic on the timeline showing visually which IT events were the most popular this was mirrored across the Computing and Intel sites. We used thunderclap to store up up the tweets and had them released a week later all at once. The effect of this was to generate 4,200 combined votes across the Computing and Intel sites creating a trending hashtag #historyofcomputing.
