To honor Lung Cancer Awareness month in November, Blue Water Media created a “Share Your Story” campaign for the American Lung Association. By facilitating public discussion around lung cancer, the campaign helped build awareness and reduce stigma around the disease, providing a sense of reassurance + inspiration to lung cancer patients, caregivers, survivors, and family and friends everywhere.
The campaign consisted of a revamped homepage mosaic of real people’s lung cancer stories and photos (http://www.mylungcancersupport.org/); landing pages where people could submit their stories (http://www.mylungcancersupport.org/get-involved/share-your-story/) and read the stories of others (http://www.mylungcancersupport.org/get-involved/share-your-story/shared-stories/), buttons to facilitate social media sharing, and a tab to gather stories from Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/lungusa/app_176328065902864). Additionally, a press release, e-newsletter, Facebook posts and Tweets (using the hashtag #lungcancerawarenessmonth) were sent out to encourage submissions and honor the stories shared.
As a result of this campaign, website visits in the month of November increased by 102% from the previous month and a total of 130 stories were shared.
