Best Shopping Social Media Campaign

To generate excitement around Smashbox's CC Cream product launch, SWELL created a Facebook app built around a gamified sampling initiative to transport the brand's passionate fans into the world of Smashbox. The app uses HTML5 and Facebook Connect technology to guide the user through a personalized first person, choose-your-own-adventure style tour of Smashbox Studios in LA. The app pulls the user's Facebook data into the world of the app, so that each experience is unique to that user. Within the story, users are given the opportunity to choose between the new CC cream and Smashbox’s established BB cream during a strong product moment. The app culminates in that product moment and a contest for fans to enter to win a sample of the new CC Cream, as well as an opportunity for them to share the app via Facebook Messages with friends of their choosing--leveraging the trust between Facebook contacts to promote virality. The app helped generate over 50,000 new Facebook fans for Smashbox over the monthlong contest period, and the number of contest entries far exceeded the brand’s expectations.
